RPL for Diploma of Hospitality Management SIT50422 — Nationally Recognised Qualification
Already managing a hotel, restaurant, café or venue? Your experience may support an RPL pathway towards SIT50422. Right Pathway helps you prepare workplace evidence; a partner Registered Training Organisation assesses your competency and issues the qualification if all requirements are met.
What is RPL for the Diploma of Hospitality Management (SIT50422)?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment pathway that allows a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to evaluate existing skills and knowledge against the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management requirements. Applicants must demonstrate competency across 28 units: 11 core and 17 electives. Right Pathway supports eligibility enquiries and evidence preparation Australia-wide; it is not an RTO and does not assess competency or issue qualifications. Additional evidence, assessment or gap training may be required.
About the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management
The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management is listed as current on training.gov.au, Australia's National Register of vocational education and training. It was first released on 10 June 2022; Release 2 is dated 9 September 2022. It supersedes, and is not equivalent to, SIT50416.
This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who combine hospitality skills, managerial skills and industry knowledge to coordinate hospitality operations. They work independently, take responsibility for others and make operational business decisions.

RPL requires evidence of skills and knowledge against the selected units. The RTO decides whether evidence is valid, sufficient, authentic and current. Examples that may support a SIT50422 portfolio include:
- Employment records — payslips, contracts and letters confirming your role and duration
- Position descriptions — showing management, supervisory or coordination duties
- Rosters and scheduling records — demonstrating staff management responsibilities
- Budget reports or P&L statements — showing your financial management responsibilities
- Staff training records or induction materials — you have created or delivered
- Customer service policies or procedures — you have written or implemented
- Incident, complaint or conflict resolution records — demonstrating your involvement
- Health & safety documentation or WHS logs — showing compliance responsibilities
- Supplier contracts or purchasing records — demonstrating business relationship management
- Third-party reports — supervisor or employer statements describing observed workplace skills
- Referee letters — from current or former employers or industry colleagues
- Previous qualifications or statements of attainment — for RPL or credit transfer consideration
💡 What evidence might you already have?
Your day-to-day work may already provide useful records. Evidence must demonstrate your own responsibilities and skills; possessing a document does not automatically demonstrate competency.
Common sources include:
- Weekly rosters and staff schedules you have created
- End-of-shift or monthly financial reports
- Staff onboarding or training materials
- Customer complaint logs or resolution records
- Food safety or WHS compliance documentation
Right Pathway helps organise evidence. Obtain permission to share workplace records and protect confidential information in consultation with the RTO.
⚠️ Important: Overseas Experience
Overseas hospitality management experience may support RPL if the RTO can verify it and assess it against Australian unit requirements. Translations, referee checks or additional evidence may be needed. Check your eligibility here.
