  • ✓ Provide it to the RTO or RPL pathway team when requested

What Is a USI?

A Unique Student Identifier, commonly called a USI, is a free lifelong education number used in Australia for nationally recognised training.

Your USI helps link your vocational education and training records across different providers. If you complete nationally recognised training, including a qualification or statement of attainment through an RPL pathway, your results may be connected to your USI record.

The official Australian Government USI website describes a USI as a free lifelong education number that only needs to be created once.

In simple terms: Your USI is like your personal training record number for nationally recognised education and training in Australia.

A USI helps you:

  • ✓ Keep one lifelong record of nationally recognised training
  • ✓ Access your official VET transcript online
  • ✓ Link completed units and qualifications to your record
  • ✓ Support enrolment and certification processes
  • ✓ Avoid delays when completing RPL or VET qualifications

Why RPL Candidates Need a USI

If your RPL pathway leads to a nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment, your partner RTO will generally need your USI before certification can be issued.

Enrolment

Your training provider may request your USI during enrolment or before finalisation.

Assessment Reporting

Nationally recognised training activity is reported through official VET reporting systems.

Certification

Without a valid USI, your qualification or statement of attainment may be delayed.

Transcript Access

Your USI can help you access training records linked to your official profile.

Important: Right Pathway is not a Registered Training Organisation and does not issue qualifications or USIs. Formal assessment and certification are completed by partner Registered Training Organisations where applicable. USIs are created through the official Australian Government USI portal.
RPL Candidate Tip

Common USI Mistakes That Can Delay RPL Outcomes

Small errors in your USI details can create delays when your RTO verifies your enrolment, reports results or prepares certification.

Before submitting your USI to your training provider or RPL support team, check that your details are accurate and match your official ID.

Check before you submit:

  • ✓Your legal name matches your ID exactly
  • ✓Your date of birth is correct
  • ✓You have not accidentally created multiple USIs
  • ✓You are using a personal email you can access
  • ✓Your USI is copied correctly with no missing characters
  • ✓Your enrolment details match your USI account details

How Your USI Connects to Training Records

When nationally recognised training is completed, training providers report training activity through official VET reporting systems.

Your USI helps connect completed training records to your individual profile, making it easier to access training records and transcripts where applicable.

For RPL candidates, this matters because your qualification or units of competency may need to be linked correctly to your USI before or after certification processes are completed by the partner Registered Training Organisation.

Why accurate reporting matters

  • ✓ Helps avoid certification delays
  • ✓ Supports transcript accuracy
  • ✓ Helps employers or authorities verify training where required
  • ✓ Reduces issues caused by mismatched student details
  • ✓ Supports nationally recognised training records
Important: If your training record does not appear on your USI transcript immediately, contact your training provider first. Reporting timeframes can depend on validation, provider reporting schedules and corrections.
