Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that evaluates whether your existing work experience, prior training, and demonstrated competency align with the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification in Australia.
Rather than unnecessarily repeating training you have already effectively completed through work, eligible applicants may be able to use documented evidence of existing skills to pursue qualification outcomes through partner Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
All qualifications pursued through RPL are issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) by the relevant Registered Training Organisation, and are nationally recognised across all Australian states and territories.
RPL is designed for experienced people — not those just starting out.
Experienced professionals with substantial industry experience in Australia or overseas seeking formal qualification recognition.
Hands-on trade professionals seeking formal recognition of practical competency developed through years of on-the-job experience.
Applicants who hold overseas qualifications or work history relevant to Australian qualification units and want formal recognition in Australia.
Professionals relocating to Australia who want their international experience formally aligned with Australian qualification standards.
People with transferable skills from adjacent industries who want a formal qualification to support a career transition or advancement.
Organisations looking to formally credential experienced staff through a structured, evidence-based qualification pathway.
Recognition of Prior Learning provides a competency-based pathway toward formal recognition by assessing the skills you already use in the workplace. Our structured, supportive approach helps applicants understand the process, organise suitable evidence, and move through the pathway with greater clarity.

A structured, step-by-step pathway from initial eligibility check to qualification outcome.
Complete a short online assessment to determine whether your experience and background may align with an RPL qualification pathway.
An RPL specialist reviews your work history, prior training, and experience against the relevant qualification units to identify alignment.
We guide you through gathering and organising suitable evidence — employment records, references, photos, logbooks, and more.
Your evidence portfolio is submitted to a partner Registered Training Organisation for formal competency assessment against the qualification standard.
Upon successful assessment, the RTO issues your nationally recognised AQF qualification — valid across all Australian states and territories.
