Recognition of Prior Learning, or RPL, is a formal assessment process that evaluates whether your existing work experience, prior training and demonstrated competency align with the requirements of a nationally recognised qualification in Australia.
Rather than unnecessarily repeating training you may already understand through work, eligible applicants may be able to use documented evidence of existing skills to pursue qualification outcomes through partner Registered Training Organisations.
Qualifications pursued through RPL are issued under the Australian Qualifications Framework by the relevant Registered Training Organisation and are nationally recognised across Australian states and territories when the applicant is assessed as competent by the partner RTO.
RPL is designed for experienced people — not those just starting out.
Experienced professionals with substantial industry experience in Australia or overseas seeking formal qualification recognition.
Hands-on trade professionals seeking formal recognition of practical competency developed through years of on-the-job experience.
Applicants who hold overseas qualifications or work history relevant to Australian qualification units and want formal recognition in Australia.
Professionals relocating to Australia who want their international experience formally aligned with Australian qualification standards.
People with transferable skills from adjacent industries who want a formal qualification to support career transition or advancement.
Organisations looking to formally credential experienced staff through a structured, evidence-based qualification pathway.
Recognition of Prior Learning provides a competency-based pathway toward formal recognition by assessing skills you already use in the workplace. Our structured approach helps applicants understand the process, organise suitable evidence and move through the pathway with greater clarity.
