What Is RPL for Certificate IV in Mental Health?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that considers whether your existing skills, knowledge and experience meet the requirements of a qualification or its units of competency.
CHC43315 focuses on self-directed recovery oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Relevant work may include community programs, home-based outreach, residential services, respite, rehabilitation programs and other mental health support settings.
Short answer: CHC43315 RPL may allow experienced mental health support workers to have their existing capability assessed against Certificate IV in Mental Health requirements. Experience alone does not guarantee competency or qualification completion.

Evidence should show your own work, knowledge and decisions. Depending on the RTO's requirements, useful material may include:

- Examples of service coordination, referrals and care-network collaboration

The assessor may also request interviews, practical demonstrations, observation or additional evidence.
Protect Privacy and Confidentiality
Do not send identifiable client records or sensitive mental health information without appropriate authority. Follow your employer's information-handling rules and remove identifying details from any authorised samples.
If workplace documents cannot be shared safely, ask the RTO about alternatives such as supervisor verification, assessor-led discussion or an approved practical assessment.
Evidence Gaps Are Not Always Skill Gaps
Additional documents or a demonstration may resolve missing evidence. Where further capability needs to be developed, the RTO may recommend targeted training and reassessment.
