RPL for Diploma of Beauty Therapy

Already working as a beauty therapist in a salon, spa or clinic? Turn your hands-on experience into the nationally recognised SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy — without going back to study full time.

What Is RPL for the Diploma of Beauty Therapy?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an Australian Government-endorsed assessment pathway that allows experienced beauty therapists to have their existing skills, knowledge and workplace experience formally assessed against the units of a nationally recognised qualification — without completing full classroom-based study.

If you have been working in a beauty salon, day spa, medi-aesthetic clinic or wellness centre, you may already have the competencies required for the SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy. RPL allows you to demonstrate those competencies through evidence rather than coursework.

The SHB50121 is the current nationally recognised Diploma-level qualification for beauty therapists across Australia. It covers a broad range of beauty therapy treatments and services including skin treatments, body therapies, waxing, lash and brow services, makeup and spa treatments — and is accepted by employers in every state and territory.

Note: SHB50121 is Release 1, created 27 February 2026 under the SHB Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package. It is the current qualification for RPL assessment purposes.
