RPL for Certificate III in Fitness

Already working as a fitness instructor, gym trainer or group exercise coach? Turn your hands-on fitness experience into the nationally recognised SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness — without going back to study full time.

What Is RPL for the Certificate III in Fitness?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an Australian Government-endorsed assessment pathway that allows experienced fitness professionals to have their existing skills, knowledge and workplace experience formally assessed against the units of a nationally recognised qualification — without completing full classroom-based study.

If you have been working as a fitness instructor, gym trainer, group exercise coach or personal trainer in a gym, fitness centre, leisure centre or community facility, you may already have the competencies required for the SIS30321 Certificate III in Fitness. RPL allows you to demonstrate those competencies through evidence rather than coursework.

The SIS30321 is the current nationally recognised Certificate III-level qualification for fitness instructors across Australia. It covers exercise instruction, client fitness assessment, gym floor operations, group fitness delivery and workplace health and safety — and is the minimum qualification required for registration with Fitness Australia and employment in most commercial gyms and fitness facilities.

Note: SIS30321 is currently at Release 2 under the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package. It is the current qualification for RPL assessment purposes and the minimum standard for fitness instructor registration in Australia.
