What is RPL for the Diploma of Community Services (CHC52025)?

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for the Diploma of Community Services CHC52025 is a formal assessment process that converts your existing work experience in community services, case management, social housing, or family welfare into a nationally recognised Australian qualification — without requiring you to complete full study. Delivered through a partnered Registered Training Organisation (RTO), Right Pathway supports eligible workers across Australia to compile their evidence portfolio and achieve their Diploma through the RPL pathway.

About the CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services

The CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services is the current, nationally recognised qualification for community services workers in Australia. Released on 5 September 2025, it supersedes the previous CHC52021 and reflects the latest industry standards set by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

This qualification reflects the role of community service workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities. At this level, workers operate autonomously within their scope of practice under broad direction from senior management.

Workers at this level support people to make meaningful change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing. They may also have responsibility for supervision of other workers and volunteers, and may undertake case management and program coordination.

What Evidence Do You Need?

RPL is evidence-based. You don't need to study — you need to demonstrate that you already have the skills. Here's what typically counts as valid evidence for CHC52025:

  • ✔️ Employment records — payslips, contracts, letters confirming your role and duration
  • ✔️ Position descriptions — showing case management, service coordination or supervisory duties
  • ✔️ Case notes and client records — de-identified samples demonstrating your practice
  • ✔️ Workplace reports and service plans — documents you have authored or contributed to
  • ✔️ Professional development records — training certificates, CPD logs, conference attendance
  • ✔️ Third-party reports — supervisor or manager statements confirming your competency
  • ✔️ Referee letters — from current or former employers, colleagues or clients (where appropriate)
  • ✔️ Previous qualifications — Cert III or IV in Community Services, Social Work, Mental Health or related fields

💡 What counts as "100 hours of work"?

The CHC52025 requires a minimum of 100 hours of relevant work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements. This is significantly less than the previous CHC52021 (which required 200 hours).

This work can be from:

  • Paid employment in community services
  • Volunteer work in community organisations
  • Supervised placement hours from prior study
  • A combination of the above

Right Pathway helps you identify, organise and present your evidence in the format assessors require.

⚠️ Important: Overseas Experience

If you gained your community services experience overseas, it may still count toward your RPL. Right Pathway has supported clients from the Philippines, India, Africa, South America and across the Pacific. Check your eligibility here.
